The Technology You Will Enjoy in the Subaru Ascent

As the largest vehicle made by Subaru, you can expect “big” things from the Ascent. This mid-sized, crossover SUV is a relative newcomer to the auto industry, and first appeared at the 2017 Los Angeles Auto Show, where it was a big hit. That is not much of a surprise, after all, because this 7 or 8 passenger SUV has been designed with a tremendous number of technologies, with many of them emphasizing an entertaining and easier drive. One of the most important uses of technology in this vehicle is for safety: the Ascent has earned the Top Safety Pick Plus rating from the IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) and a 5-star safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

In fact, the Subaru Ascent has a “Technology Package” option and comes with an array of driver assists that make it a great choice for families or road trip enthusiasts, alike. Keep these tech features in mind as you consider the Subaru Ascent.

EyeSight Driver Assist Technology

Standard in all models, it is described as an extra set of eyes on the road, and “if need be, an extra foot on the brake when you drive.” This remarkable tech can monitor traffic movement, make the most of cruise control, indicate if you veer out of your travel lane and even help to reduce rear-end crashes by up to 85%. Astonishingly, it also has automatic emergency braking when a forward collision is pending. Not surprisingly, the Ascent is equipped with EyeSight also had the highest front crash prevention ratings available.

Connectivity

Would you benefit from being able to go online while you are on the road? The Ascent comes with 4G Wi-Fi capability. And as part of the Passenger Technology Package, you can also add the following items:

·         Starlink infotainment system with an 8-inch screen

·         TomTom Navigation

·         Apple CarPlay or Android Auto

·         Starlink cloud apps that include everything from news and parking to search, and the wildly popular eBird that actually uses your GPS data to tell you what kinds of birds are in the area

·         Wireless pairing and hands-free smartphone operation

·         Adjustable display allows the driver to select up to three items to display on the dashtop

X-Mode

And for those unfamiliar with the Subaru X-Mode feature, the Ascent offers its remarkable five-feature technology that ensures optimally safe driving. Pressing the X-Mode switch activates one of the controls that will prevent any sort of tire slipping. This includes engine throttle control, transmission controls to better deliver engine power, All-Wheel Drive to maximize tire traction, a Vehicle Dynamics Control System that fine-tunes vehicle performance if tires are behaving differently, and Hill Descent Control that ensures the vehicle maintains a safer speed.

Improved Engine

The Ascent also uses Subaru’s latest advances in engine science with the FA24 engine. This is a turbocharged, direct injection, flat-four engine. With heads and a cylinder block made of aluminum alloy, it delivers up to 260 hp with 277 pound of torque at 2,000 - 4,800 rpm.

It’s Time to Test Drive the Subaru Ascent

All of the aforementioned technology features make the Subaru Ascent an intriguing choice for your next vehicle. The Ascent’s exceptional safety ratings and connectivity, plus its comfortable ride and good looks make it a fine selection. Discover all it has to offer by taking a test drive – the Ascent is sure to deliver an impressive driving experience.
